Tropics to Poles - A Meditation on an earth in transition. Click on a thumbnail to go to the slideshow:

I live in a known hotspot of change. In the last five years we have been evacuated because of flood, undergone severe water restrictions because of drought, seen bat populations decimated by extreme heat and witnessed major bush-fires ravaging half of North Stradbroke island. These extreme events fed my desire to travel to see the types of environmental and social changes experienced at other pivotal places in quite different climates and cultures. I feel a sense of urgency, an unease that we are losing valuable points of difference in a largely homogeneous world. Small countries face the dilemmas of wanting economic development that can alter the very fabric of their societies, at the same time climate and population pressures make it harder to rely on traditional approaches. Hunting, herding and religious activities are being drastically affected and in some cases the survival of culture is at stake. Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Rwanda, Antarctica, Greenland, Iceland, New Zealand, Bhutan, Ecuador, and the Galapagos have unique environments, wildlife and/or cultures which are under threat from climate changes, poachers, intense tourism and competing interests with human communities. I wanted to experience parts of the world authentic and inaccesable. I was in a transition state and wanted to visit places, animals and peoples undergoing their own journey through transition.
